Hello everyone, I have completed my military obligations and am back at work on my Congressional Exploratory Committee. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers while I was away on duty.
I got home in time to see Reagan Hernandez, my niece, graduate from Northwestern Lehigh High School. In her address to the Class of 2021, Reagan spoke about resiliency and hope.
She said, “We all know what we missed out on during our senior year… But let’s not dwell on that. Instead, let’s focus on what we gained and what we learned. Even though it felt like the dumping would never stop, the thing is - we were not buried, we were planted. We used that dumping as fertilizer. And then…we bloomed.”
Well said Reagan. I am very proud of you.
We have a lot of problems in our country right now. Sometimes they seem overwhelming. But Reagan is right. We should be optimistic about our future. We live in an amazing community in the greatest country on earth and have been through worse before. I can’t wait to see the blooms.
In a tribute to Reagan and all the graduates across the Lehigh Valley, I am sharing her Commencement Speech to the Northwestern Lehigh Class of 2021 in its entirety. Enjoy.
